Dhaka, Mar 22(bdnews24.com) -- A cargo plane made an emergency landing at Shahjalal International Airport following engine trouble detected shortly after takeoff.
The plane landed at around 11:15am, a top police official at the airport told bdnews24.com.
The crew members were safe.
The plane caught fire due to technical fault in the engine some time after it took off at 10:15am.
AKM Rezaul Karim, public relations officer of Civil Aviation authorities, told bdnews24.com that the Tri Star cargo plane, belonging to Zoom Airlines, was heading for Oman with readymade garments.
After it caught fire, parts of the plane fell off for which the news of the plane crash spread, he said.
But the plane landed safely, Karim said.
Police and fire service officials earlier said that it crashed but the control room of Shahjalal International Airport said that the plane caught fire but did not crash yet.
